Shawnee, KS (August 8, 2026) – Two vehicles were involved in a Shawnee car accident that left one person injured Friday afternoon along Interstate 435 in Johnson County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. on August 7 on northbound I-435 near milepost 7.2, approximately 0.2 miles north of Johnson Drive. Investigators reported that a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva Sport was merging onto the interstate when it came into contact with a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer traveling in the number three lane. Following the collision, the Jeep traveled into the grassy median.
The Chevrolet was driven by Josephine Y. Manning, 39, of Kansas City, Kansas, who was wearing a seat belt and was reported to have no apparent injuries.
The Jeep was driven by Sharion R. Cobbins, 55, of Overland Park, Kansas. She was not wearing a safety restraint and sustained injuries in the collision. She was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for additional treatment. The Jeep was removed from the scene by Almighty Tow Service.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
