Lawrence, KS – Woman Badly Hurt after Dog Bite at Centenial Skate Park

Lawrence, KS (August 12, 2025) – A woman is recovering from a serious dog bite injury after an unleashed dog attacked her and her Chihuahua at Centennial Skate Park in Lawrence on Sunday afternoon, August 10.

Carol Linn was walking her three dogs when she encountered an unleashed dog near a wooded area. Before she could react, the dog charged and attacked her smallest dog. Linn intervened, sustaining a severe bite to her arm in the process.

A man nearby, identified as Anthony, came to her aid, successfully subduing the aggressive dog by wrapping a leash around its neck and pinning it to the ground. Unfortunately, Carol’s dog did not survive the attack. Linn’s other two dogs were affected by the incident, but one of them managed to run home, while the other stayed by Linn’s side throughout the ordeal, even accompanying her to the hospital.

Linn emphasized the importance of leash laws, stating that the attack could have been avoided if the dog had been properly restrained. The dog responsible for the attack is now in quarantine at the Lawrence Humane Society, where it will remain for at least 10 days while authorities determine its fate.

Our thoughts are with Carol Linn as she recovers from her injuries and mourns the loss of her beloved dog.

Dog Bite Injuries in Kansas

Dog bite injuries can lead to serious physical and emotional trauma, particularly when the attack is unexpected and violent. As in the case of Carol Linn, even a brief moment of inattention can result in significant harm to both the victim and their pets.

In Kansas, dog owners are legally responsible for their dogs’ actions, and if their dog attacks someone, they may be liable for medical expenses, emotional distress, and other related costs. Pet owners must be aware of the risks of allowing their dogs to roam freely in public places, and leash laws are in place to prevent incidents like the one Linn experienced.

There are several reasons why this kind of accidents may happen:

  • Lack of control: Without a leash, dogs are free to act unpredictably, especially if they are scared, protective, or excited, leading to potential attacks.
  • Failure to socialize properly: Some dogs may not be accustomed to interacting with other animals or people, which increases the risk of aggressive behavior when confronted with unfamiliar situations.
  • Negligence by owners: When dog owners neglect leash laws or fail to properly train their pets, they put others at risk of harm by allowing their dogs to roam freely.

When a dog bite injury occurs, victims may face not only the physical consequences but also the emotional strain of dealing with the aftermath, including potential long-term medical treatment and the loss of a pet. In such cases, it’s important to consult with an experienced dog bite injury attorney to explore your legal rights and options for pursuing compensation.
