Kansas City, KS (July 25, 2026) – A mid-day highway crash in Wyandotte County left one woman injured after a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck. The Kansas City car accident occurred at approximately 1:26 p.m. on July 24 along northbound Interstate 35 near the 18th Street Expressway.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling northbound on I-35 when the crash took place. A 2008 Toyota Corolla, driven by 29-year-old Sonya Montoya of Kansas City, Missouri, lost control and struck the trailer of a 2022 Freightliner semi-truck. The semi was operated by 61-year-old Guillaume Petit Homme of Miami, Florida.
Emergency crews responded to the scene to assist those involved and manage traffic conditions along the busy interstate. The Toyota sustained damage and was removed from the roadway by All City Tow. The semi-truck, which was pulling a Great Dane trailer, remained at the scene as authorities conducted their investigation.
Sonya Montoya sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to KU Medical Center for treatment. Guillaume Petit Homme did not suffer any injuries.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
