Topeka, KS (July 12, 2026) – A Topeka car accident left at least three people injured Saturday evening, July 11. The two-vehicle crash took place at the intersection of Southwest 21st Street and Southwest Buchanan Street.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 7:26 p.m. in Shawnee County. A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper arrived at the scene around 7:32 p.m. after hearing the initial radio report from city police.
The investigation determined that a blue 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage G4, driven by Elizabeth Anna Cleland, 23, of Topeka, entered the intersection after stopping and attempting to cross Southwest 21st Street. A gray 2017 Nissan Rogue, driven by Claudia Hernandez, 30, of Topeka, was traveling westbound on Southwest 21st Street, where traffic was not required to stop.
Authorities reported that both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage, leaving them disabled in the roadway. The Nissan was removed by Taylor’s Towing, while the Mitsubishi was towed by Heartland Towing.
Elizabeth Anna Cleland, Claudia Hernandez, and passenger Jacob Tyler Inscho, 26, of Topeka, were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment. Claudia Hernandez and Jacob Tyler Inscho were taken to Stormont Vail Hospital. All occupants involved were reported to have been wearing seat belts.
Investigators stated that both drivers provided consistent accounts of the crash.
