Car Accidents in Missouri

Kansas City, MO – Tanker Truck Involved in Crash on I-435 NBMissouri sees a high number of traffic accidents each year, many of which result in injuries and significant vehicle damage. In 2023 alone, the Missouri State Highway Patrol recorded over 150,000 crashes statewide, with thousands leading to injuries or fatalities. Highway collisions, particularly those involving large commercial vehicles, can be especially dangerous due to the force of impact and the potential for secondary crashes.

Understanding the risks on the road can help drivers stay safe. Below are some key reasons crashes occur:

  • Unsafe Lane Changes – Failing to check blind spots, improper merging, or moving into another lane without signaling can lead to serious accidents. These types of crashes are particularly dangerous on highways where vehicles are traveling at high speeds.
  • Distracted Driving – Texting, eating, or engaging in other distractions while driving significantly increases the likelihood of an accident. Even a few seconds of inattention can have serious consequences.
  • Speeding – Exceeding the speed limit reduces reaction time and increases the severity of a collision. Many crashes on Missouri highways involve vehicles traveling too fast for road conditions.
  • Weather Conditions – Rain, ice, and fog contribute to thousands of accidents each year. Reduced visibility and slick roads make it more difficult for drivers to maintain control of their vehicles.
