Two Hurt in Auto Accident on US-54 at 125th St in Marmaton Twp., KS

Bourbon County, KS (February 14, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash at a rural Bourbon County intersection resulted in injuries after one SUV overturned down an embankment. The Marmaton Township truck accident happened at approximately 4:04 p.m. on February 13 at US Highway 54 and 125th Street.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling eastbound on US 54 when the incident occurred. A 1976 International Scout SUV slowed as the driver, identified as Ronald K. Maher, 56, of Redfield, Kansas, prepared to make a right turn onto southbound 125th Street. A 2021 Lincoln Nautilus SUV was traveling behind it in the same direction at the time.

Reports indicate that the Lincoln struck the rear passenger-side quarter panel of the International Scout while it was in the process of turning. Following the impact, the Scout overturned and traveled down an embankment southeast of the intersection. Authorities stated that injuries reported in the crash were considered minor.

The Lincoln Nautilus was driven by Alexis N. Kruger, 23, of Fort Scott, Kansas. Austin D. Kruger, 31, of Fort Scott, was also inside the vehicle, along with two juvenile passengers. Officials reported no apparent injuries among the occupants of the Lincoln. The vehicle was removed from the scene by A1 Towing and taken to a tow lot.

Leslie A. Maher, 48, of Redfield, who was a passenger in the SUV, and Ronald K. Maher sustained injuries and were transported to Freeman Fort Scott for evaluation and treatment. The Scout was later removed by Pearson Towing.

Troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the crash. Authorities confirmed the incident did not involve a hit-and-run or police pursuit. The collision remains under investigation.

We hope Ronald K. Maher and Leslie A. Maher recover quickly.

Truck Accidents in Kansas

Marmaton Township Truck Accident on US-54 Injures TwoMotor vehicle accidents remain a leading cause of injury across Kansas, particularly along highways like US 54 that connect rural communities. Each year, thousands of injury accidents are reported statewide, many occurring at intersections where vehicles slow or turn.

Even when injuries are described as minor following a Marmaton Township truck accident, the physical and financial effects can linger long after the scene is cleared. Families often find themselves facing medical expenses, vehicle damage, and insurance challenges all at once.

Things to Consider Following A Marmaton Township Truck Accident

Below are important considerations frequently involved in Kansas intersection crashes:

Rear-End And Turning Collisions

When a vehicle slows to turn, drivers behind must react quickly and maintain safe following distances. Even a brief delay in recognizing a slowing vehicle can lead to a significant impact. A Marmaton Township truck accident during a turn often affects the side or rear quarter panel, sometimes causing vehicles to spin or roll. These crashes frequently result in injuries to the neck, back, and shoulders.

Vehicle Overturn Accidents

When a vehicle overturns, occupants may experience sudden and forceful movement inside the cabin. Even at moderate speeds, rolling down an embankment increases the likelihood of injuries. People involved in overturn crashes often require medical evaluation to rule out internal injuries or head trauma. Recovery can involve follow-up visits and physical therapy.

Seatbelt Use And Injury Outcomes

Safety restraints play a significant role in reducing the severity of injuries following a Marmaton Township truck accident. Wearing a seatbelt can help prevent occupants from being ejected and reduce the force of impact inside the vehicle. In Kansas injury claims, documentation regarding seatbelt use can also become part of the insurance review process. Every detail surrounding the crash is carefully examined.

Insurance Review And Claims Process

After a Marmaton Township truck accident, insurance carriers assess damage, medical records, and statements from those involved. This process can feel overwhelming, especially while recovering from injuries. Understanding your rights and the potential value of your case is important when dealing with adjusters and negotiating compensation.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a collision, speaking with a trusted truck accident attorney can help you understand your options.
