Johnson County, KS (February 14, 2026) – A mid-morning hit-and-run crash along Interstate 35 left one young driver hospitalized after her vehicle was forced off the roadway in Johnson County. The Lenexa car accident occurred at approximately 11:36 a.m. on February 13.
According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, two vehicles were traveling northbound along Interstate 35. Vehicle 1, described as an unknown vehicle, was in the number two lane. Vehicle 2, a 2004 Toyota Camry, was traveling in the number three lane.
Investigators stated that Vehicle 1 made an unsafe lane change and struck the driver’s side of the Toyota about 50 feet south of College Boulevard at milepost 221.6. The impact caused the Camry to deflect across lanes four and five before running off the right side of the interstate. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle began sliding across the dirt shoulder. The passenger side of the Camry then struck a guardrail before the vehicle came to rest partially blocking lanes four and five.
The unknown driver of Vehicle 1 fled the scene before authorities arrived. Law enforcement has not released a description of the vehicle involved. The incident was not connected to a police pursuit, and investigators continue working to identify the fleeing driver.
The Toyota Camry driver, identified as Makenna Estes, 18, of Olathe, Kansas, was transported to Olathe Medical for evaluation and treatment. Her vehicle was removed from the scene by Dale’s Tow.
Traffic in the area experienced delays while crews worked to clear the lanes and ensure the roadway was safe for other motorists. Authorities continue to investigate the hit-and-run crash.
