Injury Crash on I-70 WB Near 78th St in Wyandotte County, KS

Wyandotte County, KS (February 13, 2026) – Just after midnight, a two-vehicle injury crash disrupted westbound traffic along Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County after a sideswipe collision forced both vehicles into the median wall.

Authorities confirmed that this Kansas City car accident occurred at approximately 12:42 a.m. on February 12 on Interstate 70 westbound near milepost 418.8, just west of 78th Street. The incident was investigated by K160, and troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

According to the crash narrative, a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero was traveling in the left lane. At the same time, a 2012 Ford Focus was traveling in the middle lane. Reports indicate that the Oldsmobile sideswiped the Ford, causing both vehicles to crash into the median wall. Following the impact, the Oldsmobile came to rest in the middle of the westbound lanes, while the Ford Focus left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.

All City Tow removed the Oldsmobile to a tow lot, and Sunflower Tow removed the Ford from the scene. The driver of the Oldsmobile was identified as 56-year-old Marc Aaron Crowe of Basehor, Kansas. Mr. Crowe was wearing a safety restraint and was reported to have no apparent injuries.

The Ford was driven by 32-year-old Rita F. Grieshaclzer of Lyndon, Kansas. She was wearing a seatbelt and sustained injuries. Ms. Grieshaclzer was transported to Providence Medical Center for further care. A passenger in her vehicle, 28-year-old Matthew Brandon Reed of Lyndon, Kansas, also sustained suspected minor injuries and was taken to Providence Medical Center for evaluation. The incident remains under investigation.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

When a Kansas City car accident occurs, victims often face mounting medical bills and lost income.

Even a seemingly minor Kansas City car accident can result in long-term physical pain and ongoing treatment. Many people involved in collisions are unsure of their rights under Kansas law. After a Kansas City car accident, understanding how fault and insurance coverage apply can make a meaningful difference in recovery.

Highway crashes often stem from a combination of driving behaviors and roadway conditions. Below are several factors frequently seen in interstate collisions:

  • Unsafe Lane Changes: When drivers move between lanes without fully checking mirrors and blind spots, side-by-side impacts can occur. On high-speed roadways, even slight contact may send vehicles into barriers or off the road. This type of Kansas City car accident often leads to significant vehicle damage and injuries that require medical attention.
  • Driver Fatigue: Late-night crashes, such as those occurring around 12:42 a.m., may involve fatigue. Tired drivers can struggle to maintain proper lane position and react more slowly to surrounding traffic. A brief lapse in attention can lead to a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles.
  • Distracted Driving: Activities like texting, adjusting controls, or looking away from traffic reduce a driver’s awareness. Distracted driving contributes to many sideswipe and rear-end crashes each year. When drivers fail to monitor adjacent lanes, the risk of collision increases substantially.
  • Highway Speed and Impact Force: Interstates are designed for higher speeds, which means the force of impact is much greater when vehicles collide. Even minor contact at high speeds can cause a driver to lose control. Crashes involving median walls or ditches often result in injuries requiring hospital care.
