Kansas City, MO – Two Hurt in Rear-End Crash on I-35 at MM 8.8

Kansas City, MO (April 13, 2025) – A rear-end collision involving two Ford vehicles sent at least two people for medical treatment on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on April 10 along Interstate 35 southbound near the 8.8 mile marker in Clay County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2009 Ford Explorer crested a hill and was unable to stop in time, striking the rear of a 2020 Ford F-150. Both vehicles were traveling southbound at the time of the crash. The Explorer sustained severe damage and had to be towed by private services, while the F-150 was driven from the scene.

The 29-year-old male driver of the Ford F-150, who is from Easton, Kansas, suffered minor injuries. He was privately transported to North Kansas City Hospital for evaluation. The 56-year-old woman from Parkville, Missouri, who was driving the Explorer, appeared to have no visible injuries at the scene. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine all contributing factors.

We hope those injured in this crash make a full and speedy recovery.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Kansas City, MO – Two Hurt in Rear-End Crash on I-35Car accidents are an unfortunate daily reality across Missouri’s roads and highways. In 2023, there were over 131,000 motor vehicle crashes reported statewide, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. These incidents led to more than 50,000 injuries and over 900 fatalities. Intersections—especially major highway junctions—are among the most common locations for serious collisions.

Accidents can lead to a wide range of injuries, and it’s helpful to understand some of the more common ones drivers and passengers may face:

  • Neck and Back Injuries: Whiplash is especially common in rear-end and side-impact crashes. The sudden jolt can strain or tear soft tissues in the neck and back. These injuries can lead to long-term pain, limited mobility, and the need for ongoing medical treatment, including physical therapy or even surgery.
  • Broken Bones: Even with seatbelts and airbags, the impact force of a crash can break arms, legs, ribs, and other bones. Some fractures are simple and heal with a cast, while others may require surgical intervention and rehabilitation. Broken bones can significantly interrupt work and daily routines.
  • Head Injuries: Trauma to the head during a crash can range from concussions to more serious brain injuries. These injuries often go undetected at first but can worsen over time without medical attention. Symptoms like dizziness, confusion, or headaches should never be ignored after a collision.
  • Internal Injuries: Blunt force trauma can cause damage to organs or internal bleeding, which may not be visible right away. These injuries are serious and require immediate medical assessment, often necessitating surgery or intensive care.
