Henry, MO – Juvenile Hurt in Sideswipe Crash on Hwy 7 at Rt PP

Henry, MO (May 12, 2025) – A young passenger was injured Saturday night in a two-vehicle accident involving a Mercedes van and a Chevrolet pickup on Missouri Highway 7 near Route PP. The crash occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. on May 11.

According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 1997 Chevrolet 1500 driven by a 42-year-old woman from Osawatomie, Kansas, was traveling westbound at a slower speed when a 2020 Mercedes Sprinter van attempted to pass. During the maneuver, the Chevrolet crossed the center line and sideswiped the Mercedes.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were able to be driven from the scene. The Mercedes was driven by a 42-year-old woman from Merriam, Kansas. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

A 9-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries. Although the child was reportedly secured with a safety device, his mother advised troopers that she would seek medical care on her own following the accident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the events that led to the collision.

We hope the young boy injured in this accident recovers quickly.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Henry, MO - Juvenile Hurt in Sideswipe Crash on Hwy 7 at Rt PPCar accidents in Missouri are an everyday occurrence and often result in injury or property damage. In 2023 alone, Missouri saw over 131,000 motor vehicle crashes. More than 47,000 of those accidents involved injuries, and nearly 900 led to fatalities. Rural roads in particular—like those in Henry County—can pose added risks due to limited visibility and passing zones.

When collisions happen, they can impact many areas of life. Here are several common types of injuries that victims may face:

  • Whiplash and Soft Tissue Injuries: These are among the most common injuries in car crashes, especially when vehicles sideswipe or collide at angles. Even low-speed impacts can stretch or tear muscles, ligaments, and tendons, leading to ongoing pain and restricted movement.
  • Concussions and Head Trauma: The sudden jolt from a crash can cause the brain to strike the inside of the skull, resulting in concussions or more severe brain injuries. Symptoms may not appear right away, which makes early assessment crucial.
  • Broken Bones: Arms, legs, ribs, and wrists are all vulnerable in collisions, especially for passengers sitting near the point of impact. These injuries may require surgery or extended recovery times, depending on severity.
  • Emotional and Psychological Injuries: Accidents can leave a lasting emotional toll, especially on children. Anxiety, nightmares, and trauma-related stress can appear days or even weeks after the crash.
