Johnson, MO – One Hurt in Crash on SW 1821 Rd & SW 375th Rd

Johnson, MO (May 24, 2025) – A man was taken to the hospital with injuries following a two-vehicle crash that occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on May 21 in rural Johnson County.

The accident happened at the intersection of Southwest 1821 Road and Southwest 375th Road at approximately 12:44 p.m. According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 1991 Chevrolet driven by a 28-year-old woman from Alma was turning north onto 1821 Road when it collided with a southbound 2024 Taizhou. The Chevrolet struck the front of the other vehicle during the turn.

The 30-year-old male driver of the Taizhou, a Kingsville resident, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He sustained minor injuries and was transported by Johnson County Ambulance District to Saint Luke’s East Hospital for evaluation.

Despite sustaining moderate damage, the Chevrolet was driven away from the scene. The Taizhou, however, had extensive damage and was left at the site of the crash. Emergency crews with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

We hope the injured driver experiences a timely and full recovery.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Johnson, MO - One Injured in Crash on SW 1821 Rd & SW 375th RdMotor vehicle collisions remain a significant concern across Missouri. In 2023, the Missouri Department of Transportation recorded over 150,000 crashes statewide, with thousands resulting in injury. Accidents often occur on rural roads where visibility is limited and traffic control measures are fewer.

To help you understand more about these incidents, here’s a look at common causes of car crashes:

  • Failure to Yield Right of Way: This is a leading cause of accidents, especially at rural intersections. Drivers who fail to yield during turns or merges often collide with oncoming vehicles, leading to serious consequences.
  • Distracted Driving: Cell phones, GPS devices, and other distractions continue to be a top issue. Even a brief lapse in attention can result in a collision, especially on roads with cross-traffic or hidden driveways.
  • Speeding: Higher speeds reduce reaction time and increase the force of impact. On county roads where posted limits may be ignored, this becomes especially dangerous.
  • Driving Without Seatbelts: Many victims suffer worse outcomes due to lack of seatbelt use. Wearing one significantly reduces the risk of severe injury or death during a crash.
  • Driver Inexperience: Inexperienced drivers may not react appropriately to rural road conditions, leading to misjudged turns, unsafe passing, or failure to anticipate hazards.

Each of these factors contributes to Missouri’s accident rates, especially in rural communities like Johnson County.
