Car Accidents in Missouri

Chain O Lakes, MO - Two-Vehicle Crash Injures Arkansas Woman Near Route PCar crashes are a frequent concern throughout Missouri. In 2023, state authorities documented over 150,000 crashes, with tens of thousands resulting in injuries. Rural highways and intersections, particularly in southwest Missouri, often see increased accident risks due to limited visibility, narrow roads, and traffic from neighboring states.

As many drivers know, even a single crash can impact your life in unexpected ways. Today, let’s look at some common causes of collisions across Missouri:

  • Failure to Yield at Intersections: Intersections without proper signage or with obstructed views can be dangerous. When one driver fails to yield the right of way, it can lead to serious side-impact crashes. These types of accidents often cause injuries to both the driver and passengers.
  • Distracted Driving: Even a moment of looking down at a phone or GPS can lead to a crash. In recent years, Missouri has taken steps to discourage phone use behind the wheel, but distracted driving continues to play a major role in thousands of crashes annually.
  • Rural Road Conditions: Country roads may have sharp curves, uneven pavement, and limited lighting. These conditions can make it difficult for drivers to anticipate hazards. Add in high speeds and unfamiliarity with the area, and the chance for accidents increases.
  • Driver Fatigue: Especially among drivers covering long distances, drowsy driving is a serious issue. Fatigued drivers may experience slower reaction times or even fall asleep behind the wheel, putting themselves and others at risk.
