Car Accidents in Missouri

Warrensburg, MO – Crash on N Washington St Leaves One InjuredMissouri sees thousands of car accidents each year, many resulting in injuries and significant vehicle damage. Data shows that failure to yield is a common contributing factor in collisions at intersections across the state. In 2022 alone, Missouri recorded over 15,000 crashes caused by failure to yield, highlighting the importance of cautious driving at stop signs and signalized intersections.

Understanding what leads to these accidents can help drivers stay safer on the road. Here are some common reasons for intersection crashes:

  • Failure to Yield – Many crashes occur when drivers misjudge the speed of oncoming vehicles or fail to recognize the right-of-way. Ensuring full awareness before entering an intersection can reduce the risk of collisions.
  • Distracted Driving – Using a phone, adjusting the radio, or engaging in other distractions can make drivers miss crucial traffic signals or stop signs, increasing accident risks.
  • Speeding Through Intersections – Exceeding the speed limit when approaching or driving through an intersection can limit reaction time and increase the severity of crashes.
  • Limited Visibility – Poor lighting, obstructed views, or weather conditions can make it harder for drivers to see stop signs or other vehicles, leading to potential accidents.
  • Teenage Drivers – Inexperience on the road can contribute to errors in judgment, such as failing to yield or misinterpreting traffic patterns at intersections.
