Merriam, KS (September 21, 2026) – A Merriam car accident left 68-year-old Dora Molina injured on September 20 after two Honda Accords collided on northbound Interstate 35 near Johnson Drive.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the injury crash occurred at approximately 12:52 p.m. near mile marker 229.6 in Johnson County.
The preliminary crash report states that 18-year-old Erick Sorto of Overland Park was driving a 2010 Honda Accord northbound on I-35. Authorities reported that Sorto was racing another vehicle when he lost control and struck the driver’s side of a northbound 1996 Honda Accord driven by Molina, a Kansas City, Kansas, resident.
After the impact, Sorto’s Honda struck a wall and came to rest partially within the far-right lane and shoulder. Sorto was reported to have no apparent injuries. Molina suffered an injury and was transported to AdventHealth for medical care. Both drivers were wearing safety restraints. The 2010 Honda was removed from the scene by Almighty Tow.
The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to handle the investigation.
