Kansas City, MO – Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-435 Injures One

Kansas City, MO (January 11, 2025) – A multi-vehicle accident during the early morning hours left one man injured and caused significant disruptions on Interstate 435 southbound near the 56-mile marker.

Authorities report the crash occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. on January 9. The collision involved three vehicles, including a 2016 Ford F-150, a 2006 Peterbilt truck, and a 2012 Ford Escape. The incident began when the driver of the Ford F-150, a 59-year-old man from Gladstone, Missouri, merged into the left lane to yield to a traffic incident ahead. The Peterbilt truck struck the F-150, and moments later, the Ford Escape slid on the roadway, colliding with the Peterbilt.

Emergency crews, including Kansas City Fire & EMS, responded quickly to the scene. The driver of the Ford F-150 sustained minor injuries and was transported to Liberty Hospital for treatment. The drivers of the other vehicles, a 45-year-old man from Warner, Oklahoma, and a 55-year-old man from Independence, Missouri, did not report injuries at the scene.

The crash resulted in significant damage to the vehicles. Both the Ford F-150 and the Ford Escape were towed from the scene due to total damage, while the Peterbilt sustained minor damage. Investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol are currently examining the incident, which caused delays for motorists in the area.

We wish the injured victim a swift recovery.

Truck Accidents in Missouri

Kansas City, MO - Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-435 Injures OneMissouri sees its share of serious truck accidents each year. In 2021, the state reported over 4,000 crashes involving large commercial vehicles, many of which resulted in injuries or fatalities. These collisions often stem from merging incidents, distracted driving, or road conditions.

Truck accidents are particularly concerning due to the sheer size and weight of commercial vehicles, which can cause devastating impacts to smaller passenger vehicles. Below are key risks and issues associated with truck-related crashes:

  1. Blind Spots – Large trucks have significant blind spots on all sides, making it difficult for truck drivers to see smaller vehicles, especially during lane changes. Drivers of passenger vehicles are advised to avoid lingering in these blind zones.
  2. Stopping Distance – Trucks require greater stopping distances than smaller vehicles, which can be dangerous during sudden traffic stops or roadway hazards. This factor often leads to rear-end collisions.
  3. Driver Fatigue – Commercial truck drivers often face demanding schedules, and fatigue can impair their reaction times and decision-making abilities.
  4. Road Conditions – Weather, construction zones, and unexpected obstacles often exacerbate the risk of truck-related collisions. Drivers should exercise extra caution during adverse conditions.
