Woman Loses Life in Fatal Car Accident on I-70 Near Tonganoxie, KS

Tonganoxie, KS (September 4, 2026) – A fatal Tonganoxie car accident claimed the life of a Texas woman Tuesday afternoon, September 2.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 216 in Leavenworth County, south of Tonganoxie. A 2015 GMC Acadia, a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu, a Ford Escape, and a hauling truck were involved in a chain-reaction collision.

Following the crash, Linda Taliaferro, 68, of Lubbock, Texas, who was riding as a passenger in the GMC Acadia, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acadia sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported that the drivers of the Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Escape sustained minor injuries. The driver of the hauling truck was not injured.
