Kansas City, KS (August 17, 2026) – Officials confirmed that one person suffered serious injuries in a Kansas City car accident that occurred early Sunday morning, August 16, on Interstate 635.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 1:52 a.m. on westbound I-635 near mile marker 1.9, about three-quarters of a mile south of Metro. Investigators reported that a 2024 Chevrolet Trax was traveling southbound when it collided with a 2009 Dodge Charger.
The Chevrolet was driven by Janee Patrice Stokes, 38, of Shawnee, Kansas. She sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to KU Medical Center for treatment. Authorities reported that the driver was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the crash. The Dodge Charger was unoccupied, and no additional injuries were reported. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Sunflower Tow Service.
