Woman Injured in Truck Accident on I-35 in Kansas City, KS

Kansas City, KS (November 1, 2026) – A 33-year-old woman suffered suspected serious injuries Saturday morning, October 31, following a collision involving a passenger car and a semi-truck on Interstate 35 in Wyandotte County. The Kansas City truck accident occurred around 9:33 a.m. on southbound I-35 near milepost 232.8, approximately 500 feet north of 18th Street.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2018 Honda Civic and a 2024 International semi-truck hauling a Great Dane trailer were traveling southbound when the vehicles collided during an attempted lane change.

The Honda was traveling in lane three while the semi-truck was in lane two. The patrol’s report indicates that the Honda was attempting to move toward lane four when it instead traveled left and struck the semi-truck.

Following the impact, the Honda spun, traveled off the right side of the interstate, and struck a guardrail. The Honda driver, identified as 33-year-old Jaclyn Calloway of Overland Park, sustained suspected serious injuries. She was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment.

The semi-truck driver, identified as 35-year-old Mario Moreno of Creston, Iowa, was not reported injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The Honda was removed from the scene by All City Tow. The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the collision.

We hope the injured woman receives the medical care she needs and makes a full recovery.

Truck Accidents in Kansas

Kansas City Truck Accident on I-35 Leaves Woman InjuredA Kansas City truck accident involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial semi-truck can result in serious injuries, particularly when the impact causes a vehicle to spin or leave the roadway. The considerable difference in size and weight between passenger cars and commercial trucks can make these collisions especially dangerous.

When vehicles collide during a lane change, determining the sequence of events may require examining roadway markings, vehicle damage, witness accounts, and available electronic records.

For injured motorists, the investigation can also raise questions about insurance coverage, medical expenses, and the evidence needed to support a personal injury claim.

What evidence can help determine how a car and semi-truck collided?

Investigators may review vehicle damage, roadway markings, photographs, witness statements, and available camera footage. In a Kansas City truck accident, the positions of the vehicles before impact may be especially important when a collision occurs during a lane change.

Commercial trucks may also contain electronic systems that record certain operational information. Depending on the vehicle and equipment, these records could help investigators understand the truck’s movements before the crash.

However, the availability and usefulness of electronic evidence vary. Preserving relevant records early can help prevent important information from being lost.

Can a driver recover compensation after a collision with a commercial truck?

Yes, when the evidence establishes that another party’s negligence caused the injuries. A Kansas City truck accident may involve claims for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and future treatment costs.

Kansas follows a modified comparative negligence system. An injured person generally must be less than 50% responsible for the collision to recover compensation, and any award is reduced by their percentage of fault.

Responsibility must be evaluated using the facts of the collision rather than assuming that the commercial truck driver or passenger vehicle driver caused the accident.

What happens when a collision causes a vehicle to strike a guardrail?

A secondary impact can complicate an injury claim because the vehicle occupants may experience forces from more than one collision. After a Kansas City truck accident, medical records and crash evidence may help establish the injuries associated with the overall sequence of events.

A guardrail impact may also cause additional vehicle damage and create questions about property damage coverage. Injured motorists should keep medical records, towing receipts, repair estimates, and documentation of missed work. These materials can help establish the financial effects of the accident and support an insurance claim.
