Warrensburg, MO – Rear-End Crash Injures One on Bus 13

Warrensburg, MO (May 10, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision sent one man to the hospital after a rear-end crash occurred along northbound Business Route 13, just north of Southeast 230th Road, on the afternoon of May 8.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:14 p.m. when a 1995 Chevrolet S10, heading northbound, struck the rear of a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. Both vehicles were being driven by Warrensburg residents and were able to be driven from the scene afterward.

The driver of the Chevrolet S10 was identified as a 50-year-old male who reported no injuries. The Grand Prix, driven by a 32-year-old male, sustained moderate damage in the crash. A 46-year-old male passenger in the Grand Prix, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries. He was transported by Johnson County Ambulance District to Western Missouri Medical Center for further treatment.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene, helping clear the roadway and ensure traffic flow was restored. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident to determine all contributing factors.

We hope the man injured in this crash makes a full and smooth recovery.

Rear-End Accidents in Missouri

Warrensburg, MO - Rear-End Crash Injures One on Bus 13Rear-end accidents are one of the most common types of crashes across Missouri. According to MODOT, these incidents often result from tailgating, distracted driving, or unexpected stops in traffic. In 2023 alone, rear-end collisions accounted for nearly 30% of all roadway accidents across the state. Many of these crashes could be avoided with greater following distances and increased attention behind the wheel.

Understanding how these crashes happen can help reduce the risk. Below are a few of the top causes for rear-end accidents:

  • Distracted Driving: Cellphone use, adjusting controls, or simply not paying attention can prevent a driver from noticing a slowing or stopped vehicle ahead. Even a short lapse in attention can result in a crash. Keeping your eyes and mind on the road is essential.
  • Following Too Closely: Tailgating dramatically reduces the time a driver has to react. The three-second rule is a useful guideline: stay at least three seconds behind the vehicle in front, more in bad weather or at higher speeds.
  • Sudden Stops: Drivers who slam on their brakes without warning may cause the car behind them to rear-end them. Defensive driving and maintaining space help lessen these risks.
  • Weather Conditions: Rain, snow, and ice can lengthen stopping distances. Poor visibility also makes it harder to judge distances. Slowing down and staying alert can make a difference.
  • Brake or Mechanical Failure: Malfunctioning brakes or worn tires reduce a driver’s ability to stop in time. Regular maintenance helps prevent these kinds of equipment-related collisions.
