Overland Park, KS (May 24, 2026) – An Overland Park car accident involving five vehicles left two women with serious injuries Friday evening along Interstate 35.
The crash occurred around 6:26 p.m. on May 22 on the northbound side of Interstate 35 near Antioch Road. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash report, all five vehicles were traveling north in the same lane when traffic ahead began to slow.
Authorities identified the vehicles involved as a 2004 Lexus RX, a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, a 2013 Mazda 3, a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, and a 2017 Ram 5500. Investigators determined that four of the vehicles slowed due to congestion. However, the driver of the Ram 5500, a 26-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man, did not reduce speed in time and struck the rear of the Lexus.
The impact triggered a chain reaction collision. The Lexus then hit the Hyundai, the Hyundai collided with the Mazda, and the Mazda subsequently struck the Chevrolet.
The Hyundai driver, a 33-year-old woman from Gardner, Kansas, and the Mazda driver, a 58-year-old Kansas City, Kansas woman, both sustained serious injuries. They were transported for medical care. The 26-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man driving the Ram sustained undisclosed injuries. The remaining drivers were not reported injured.
