According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, three vehicles were traveling eastbound on Central Avenue, just west of 10th Street. A 2004 Nissan Pathfinder struck the rear of a stopped C1S electric scooter, pushing the scooter into a 2023 Dodge Durango that was also stopped in traffic.

Car accidents in Kansas can cause serious injuries, especially when multiple vehicles or electric scooters are involved. A Kansas City car accident involving a scooter can be particularly dangerous because riders lack the protection of an enclosed vehicle.

A 2019 study published in the Journal of Safety Research examined how intersection characteristics influence crash severity. Researchers analyzed U.S. crash data and identified several factors that affect injury risks.

The study has several important findings:

  • Traffic Signals: Researchers found that crashes at signalized intersections were less severe on average than those at stop-controlled intersections. However, drivers must still watch for stopped vehicles and changing traffic conditions.
  • Speed Limits: Posted speed limits were among the most significant factors affecting crash severity. A Kansas City car accident involving higher speeds may increase the risk of serious injuries.
  • Urban and Rural Roads: Researchers identified differences between urban and rural intersections as another important factor. Road design and surrounding traffic conditions can influence collision severity.
  • Divided Roadways: The study found that divided and undivided roadways were significant factors in intersection crash severity. A Kansas City car accident may involve different risks depending on how traffic lanes and approaches are arranged.

These findings show why intersection design and driver awareness both matter. Motorists should maintain safe following distances and remain alert for smaller vehicles, particularly when approaching stopped traffic.

After a Kansas City car accident, injured individuals may face medical bills, lost wages, and questions about the value of their case. Serious injuries, including neck injuries, may require ongoing treatment. A car accident attorney can review the evidence and explain available legal options.
