Topeka, KS – Rear-End Crash Injures Driver on US-75

Topeka, KS (July 1, 2025) – A rear-end collision left at least one person hurt after two vehicles collided on U.S. Highway 75 Southbound just north of the Interstate 70 interchange. The crash took place at approximately 2:13 p.m. on June 28. Reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol indicate that the incident occurred near milepost 161.4 when a Nissan driver failed to notice a slowing Ford ahead, resulting in a significant impact.

According to initial findings, a 2017 Nissan passenger car driven by Shane M. Adamson, 17, of Silver Lake, was heading southbound on U.S. Highway 75 alongside passenger Niesa Ventura, 17, also of Silver Lake. Adamson did not see that a 2007 Ford driven by Theresa M. Yocum, 33, of Lawrence, was slowing or stopped ahead and struck the back of the Ford.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assess those involved. Theresa M. Yocum was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital for further medical care following the crash. Neither Shane Adamson nor passenger Niesa Ventura reported any visible injuries at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of this collision to determine if any charges will be filed.

We hope those injured in this wreck recover rapidly.

Car Accidents in Kansas

Topeka, KS - Rear-End Crash Injures Driver on US-75Car accidents remain a daily concern for drivers across Kansas. The Kansas Department of Transportation reports that thousands of injury crashes occur each year on major highways like U.S. Highway 75 and Interstate 70. With heavy traffic, sudden stops, and merging vehicles, rear-end collisions are among the most common types of wrecks seen statewide. Drivers are reminded to stay alert and keep a safe distance at all times.

Understanding how these collisions can affect victims is important. Here are some common causes of rear-end crashes that everyone should be aware of:

  • Distracted Driving: Using a phone, adjusting controls, or talking to passengers can pull a driver’s focus from the road. Even a brief glance away can result in a serious crash. Staying fully attentive while driving helps prevent these split-second mistakes.
  • Tailgating: Following another vehicle too closely is a frequent cause of rear-end accidents. Drivers need to maintain enough space to stop safely if traffic ahead slows down unexpectedly. This simple habit gives everyone more time to react and avoid unnecessary collisions.
  • Sudden Stops: Heavy traffic, wildlife crossing, or stalled vehicles can cause abrupt stops. Drivers who anticipate possible slowdowns and watch traffic several cars ahead are less likely to slam into another vehicle. Defensive driving goes a long way in these situations.
  • Weather Conditions: Rain, ice, or fog can make roads slick and reduce visibility. When conditions are poor, drivers must increase their following distance and reduce speed. Staying cautious during bad weather is vital to preventing crashes like this one.
