Leawood, KS (August 18, 2026) – Authorities are currently investigating a Leawood scooter accident that left a 13-year-old boy on Monday morning, August 17.
According to the Leawood Police Department, the crash happened at approximately 7:35 a.m. near West 143rd Street and Mission Road. Police reported that the 13-year-old boy was traveling westbound on the sidewalk on a motorized scooter as he headed to school. As he crossed the entrance to Prairie Star Elementary School, he was struck by an eastbound passenger vehicle that was turning into the school’s parking lot.
Authorities stated the boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. When the first officer arrived, he was alert and speaking with emergency personnel. Firefighters from the Leawood Fire Department and Johnson County MedAct provided medical treatment before transporting him to a nearby hospital for additional care. His current condition has not been released.
Following the incident, Prairie Star Middle School, where the student attends classes, notified families about the morning crash. Police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
