Sedgwick County, KS – Three-Vehicle Collision on K-96 W Injures One

Sedgwick County, KS (August 7, 2025) – A multi-vehicle accident occurred on Kansas Highway 96 westbound near mile marker 291.7 on Wednesday morning, August 6. The collision took place at approximately 9:45 a.m. and involved a 2012 Buick Verano, a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, and a 2015 BMW X5 Series. According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, at least one person was injured and transported for medical treatment.

Authorities state that traffic was moving in the far outside lane when the Buick, driven by 54-year-old Mary Ann Morrison of Wichita, failed to slow for vehicles ahead. The Buick struck the rear of the Volkswagen, driven by 25-year-old Elizabeth Alice Florence of Council Grove, which then collided with the back of the BMW driven by 31-year-old Victoria Elizabeth Andrews of Wichita. The impact left the Volkswagen driver with injuries requiring transport to St. Francis Hospital.

Traffic was slowed as crews cleared the scene and documented the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident. Drivers were advised to expect residual delays along the westbound lanes of K-96 following the wreck.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Kansas

Sedgwick County, KS - Three-Vehicle Collision on K-96 W Injures OneIn Kansas, thousands of vehicle accidents occur every year, many leading to injuries that require hospitalization. According to recent state data, a significant portion of these crashes are rear-end collisions like the one reported here. Weather conditions, distracted driving, and following too closely often contribute to these incidents. Understanding common accident patterns in the state can help drivers remain vigilant and potentially avoid dangerous situations.

When looking at crash risks, it is worth noting a few key contributing factors:

  • Following Too Closely: Tailgating remains one of the leading causes of rear-end crashes in Kansas. When drivers fail to maintain a safe distance, they reduce their reaction time and increase the chance of a collision.
  • Distracted Driving: Activities like texting, adjusting the radio, or eating can pull attention from the road for critical seconds, leading to dangerous outcomes.
  • Speeding: Even driving slightly over the limit can make it harder to stop in time, especially when traffic ahead slows suddenly.
  • Traffic Congestion: Dense traffic on highways increases the likelihood of chain-reaction crashes when one vehicle slows or stops unexpectedly.
