Pleasant Hill, MO – Crash on MO-7 Highway Leaves One Injured

Pleasant Hill, MO (February 6, 2025) – Authorities responded to a two-vehicle collision on MO-7 Highway, on the bridge over 58 Highway, early Wednesday morning. The crash, which occurred around 6:18 a.m., left one driver with injuries requiring hospital treatment.

According to reports, a 38-year-old woman from Butler, Missouri, was driving a 2008 Dodge northbound when she began to slow down due to icy road conditions. A 20-year-old woman from Pleasant Hill, Missouri, who was operating a 2025 Honda Civic, was also traveling northbound and was unable to stop in time, striking the rear of the Dodge. The impact sent the Honda off the left side of the roadway, where it collided with a guardrail. Meanwhile, the Dodge slid on the ice, veered off the right side, struck a concrete barrier, and overturned.

Emergency responders from Pleasant Hill Fire and EMS, along with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, arrived at the scene to assist those involved. The driver of the Dodge sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Pleasant Hill EMS to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Honda Civic did not report injuries and was able to drive away from the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash. The icy conditions on the roadway were a significant factor in the accident.

We hope the injured victim recovers quickly.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Pleasant Hill, MO – Crash on MO-7 Highway Leaves One InjuredMissouri experiences thousands of car accidents each year, many of which occur due to hazardous road conditions, distracted driving, and speeding. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, in recent years, winter weather has contributed to a significant number of crashes, especially in early morning hours when roads are most dangerous.

Understanding how accidents happen can help drivers stay safer on Missouri roadways. Here are some common contributing factors to winter crashes:

  • Icy and Snow-Covered Roads – Slippery surfaces increase stopping distances and reduce vehicle control. Even vehicles with four-wheel drive can struggle to maintain traction on icy roads.
  • Reduced Visibility – Snow, fog, and early morning darkness can make it difficult for drivers to see hazards ahead, increasing the risk of rear-end collisions.
  • Sudden Braking – Hard braking on ice-covered roads can cause a vehicle to skid, often leading to collisions or spin-outs.
  • Driver Inexperience – Younger or inexperienced drivers may not be accustomed to handling a vehicle in winter conditions, making it easier for them to lose control.
