Overland Park, KS – 21-Year-Old Hospitalized After Crash on I-35

Overland Park, KS (August 4, 2025) – A young woman from Mission was taken to the hospital after a rear-end accident along Interstate 35 in Johnson County earlier this week. The crash happened just before noon, around 11:56 a.m. on August 1, along the southbound lanes of I-35 near mile marker 223.2, approximately 0.6 miles north of Interstate 435.

According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, both vehicles involved were traveling in the number three lane when traffic began to slow. A 2014 Nissan Rogue, driven by 21-year-old Emilia Sedillo of Mission, Kansas, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of a 2021 Ford F-150. The Ford was being driven by 36-year-old Timothy Ringstrom of Overland Park.

Sedillo sustained injuries in the crash and was transported by emergency personnel to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for further care. The Nissan Rogue had to be towed from the scene by Almighty Tow due to the damage it sustained. The Ford F-150 did not require towing, and Ringstrom was reported to have no apparent injuries. Emergency crews responded quickly to clear the scene and assist those involved. The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

We hope those injured in this accident recover rapidly.

Car Accidents in Kansas

Overland Park, KS - 21-Year-Old Hospitalized After Crash on I-35Car accidents in Kansas continue to be a major concern on highways and interstates throughout the state. According to state data, Kansas sees thousands of crashes each year, with a significant portion happening in urban areas like Johnson County. Rear-end collisions like the one described are among the most common crash types and often occur during periods of slowed or congested traffic.

When discussing accident types like this one, it’s helpful to understand some of the common injuries that victims may face and the impact they can have:

  • Whiplash and Soft Tissue Injuries: These are extremely common in rear-end accidents. Even low-speed crashes can cause significant neck and back strain due to the sudden movement of the body on impact.
  • Concussions and Head Injuries: In some cases, a person may hit their head on the steering wheel or headrest, leading to concussions or even mild traumatic brain injuries that require monitoring.
  • Spinal Injuries: More severe rear-end crashes can lead to slipped or herniated discs, especially if the spine is compressed during the crash.
  • Airbag and Seatbelt Injuries: While these safety features save lives, they can also cause bruising or rib injuries, particularly if the impact is forceful.
