Kansas City, KS (August 9, 2026) – A Kansas City truck accident involving three vehicles left one man with serious injuries Friday morning after a rollover crash on Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 10:53 a.m. on August 7 on westbound I-70 near milepost 415.8, just east of Turner Diagonal. Investigators reported that a 2013 Cadillac XTS was traveling northbound on Turner Diagonal when it left the roadway, traveled through a grassy ditch, entered the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70, struck the inside barrier wall, and overturned. The Cadillac then collided with the driver’s side cargo trailer being towed by a 2024 Ram 2500 before coming to rest in the westbound lanes. Debris from the crash also struck a 2017 Freightliner M2.

The Cadillac was driven by Justin D. Mays, 35, of Kansas City, Kansas. He was not wearing a seat belt and sustained suspected serious injuries. He was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment.

The Freightliner was driven by Cory M. Fales, 26, of Kansas City, Missouri, who was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The Ram 2500 was operated by David D. Chilson, 61, of Kansas City, Missouri, who was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The Ram was towing a 2026 South Georgia cargo trailer at the time of the collision.

Traffic was impacted in both directions of Interstate 70 while emergency crews removed the overturned vehicle, cleared debris, and investigated the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
