Independence, MO (July 15, 2026) – An Independence pedestrian accident left a young child with critical injuries after he was struck by a vehicle Monday evening along Truman Rd. The incident happened at approximately 5:40 p.m. on July 13 near the intersection of Truman Rd and River Blvd, involving a five-year-old boy and an SUV.
Authorities with the Independence Police Department were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Early findings indicate the child had been walking eastbound on the north sidewalk with a group of other children. At some point, he entered the roadway, where the SUV struck him.
Emergency medical personnel arrived quickly and provided aid before transporting the child to a nearby hospital. He was reported to be in critical condition following the collision. The driver of the SUV, an adult whose identity has not been released, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.
