The collision occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. on July 29 on the northbound lanes of I-35, just north of Bedford Avenue. According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, traffic congestion ahead caused one vehicle to come to a stop in the roadway, setting off a chain-reaction crash involving three vehicles.
Authorities indicate that a 2021 Subaru Outback, driven by a 41-year-old man from Platte City, had stopped due to slowed traffic. A 2023 Lexus RX operated by a 31-year-old woman from Liberty slowed behind it. A 2019 Ford Explorer driven by a 37-year-old man from Kansas City failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Lexus, pushing it forward into the Subaru.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene to assist those involved and manage traffic delays in the busy corridor. The 31-year-old female driver of the Lexus sustained injuries and was transported to North Kansas City Hospital for medical care. The other drivers, both adult males, were not reported to have sustained injuries requiring transport.
