Merriam, KS (August 2, 2026) – A chain-reaction Merriam car accident involving three vehicles, including a hit-and-run driver, left multiple people injured along Interstate 35 near Antioch Road. The accident took place shortly after 12:20 a.m. on July 31.
According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2025 Nissan Altima driven by Christian Marie Williams, 23, of Prairie Village, was traveling northbound on I-35 at Antioch Road in Merriam when another vehicle began driving recklessly in the area.
Witnesses told investigators that the second vehicle abruptly cut in front of Williams’ car, forcing her to take evasive action. As she attempted to avoid the vehicle, her Nissan lost control and spun on the roadway. Moments later, a 2014 Honda Accord driven by Luz Amelia Cabrera-Lopez, 53, of Kansas City, Kansas, struck the Nissan in a T-bone collision, pushing it off the roadway.
The second vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene and has not yet been identified. Authorities are continuing to search for the driver as part of the ongoing investigation.
Emergency crews evaluated those involved at the crash site. Williams was reported to have no apparent injuries. However, her passenger, Mikayley Elizabeth Clock, 20, of Winfield, suffered injuries and was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Cabrera-Lopez also sustained injuries and was taken to KU Medical Center for further treatment.
All individuals involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Both the Nissan Altima and Honda Accord were removed from the scene by tow services after sustaining significant damage.
The incident remains under investigation by responding agencies, and anyone with information about the fleeing driver is encouraged to come forward.
