Injury Crash in Johnson County, KS on I-35 at 67th St

Merriam, KS (February 3, 2026) – Two individuals were injured in a Merriam car accident that occurred Monday afternoon along Interstate 35 Southbound near 67th Street. The crash took place around 1:48 p.m. on February 2, causing delays in the southbound lanes near mile marker 228.2.

According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling in the second lane southbound when the lead vehicle, a 2004 Honda Accord, experienced mechanical issues and began slowing in the lane. The following vehicle, a 2017 Nissan Rogue, was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear of the Honda.

The driver of the Honda, 22-year-old Yaqueli Mancia Ramirez of Kansas City, KS, was injured in the crash. The Nissan’s driver, 71-year-old Robert Harner of Olathe, KS, was also hurt and transported to Overland Park Regional Hospital for care. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Lucas Towing removed the Honda from the scene, while Allied Towing handled the Nissan. The incident remains under investigation by authorities.

We hope both Yaqueli Mancia Ramirez and Robert Harner recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Kansas

Merriam Car Accident Blocks I-35, Injuries ReportedA Merriam car accident like this one can leave victims with long-lasting injuries and emotional distress. In Kansas, thousands of crashes occur each year on major highways like I-35. If you were hurt in a Merriam car accident, it’s important to understand your rights and options. Speaking with a car accident attorney early on can help ensure your claim is protected and fairly valued. Under Kansas law, injury victims may be entitled to compensation for hospital bills, lost wages, vehicle repairs, and ongoing care.

When involved in a Merriam car accident, victims often ask what steps to take next. Understanding what to do after a crash can be critical for preserving evidence and protecting your case. Recovery may also involve extended physical therapy depending on the injury’s severity.

Here are key factors to know when pursuing a claim after a Merriam car accident:

Can a Car Accident Attorney Help If the Other Driver Was Uninsured?

Yes. If you were hit by an uninsured driver, your attorney can help you explore compensation through your own policy’s uninsured motorist coverage. Many policies in Kansas provide this protection. Even when no insurance is available, legal help can guide you through other compensation avenues.

How Fault Is Determined in a Car Accident Case

Kansas follows a comparative negligence system. This means each driver’s share of fault can impact their ability to recover damages. If you’re found 20% at fault, your compensation is reduced by 20%. If you’re more than 50% at fault, you cannot recover compensation under state law.

What If the Insurance Company Denies Your Car Accident Claim?

A claim denial doesn’t mean you’re out of options. A Merriam car accident attorney can review the insurance company’s reasoning and appeal the decision. Often, insurance providers minimize or deny claims unfairly. Legal action or negotiation may still result in a fair settlement after a denial.
