Liberty, MO – Three-Vehicle Crash on MO 210 Injures Two Drivers

Liberty, MO (May 17, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving three westbound vehicles caused injuries to two drivers Wednesday morning on Missouri Route 210 at Liberty Bend Road in Clay County.

The accident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. on May 15. Reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol show the incident began when a 2007 GMC, driven by a 94-year-old woman from Orrick, failed to stop in slowing traffic and rear-ended a 2012 Ford driven by a 57-year-old man from Lee’s Summit. The impact forced the second vehicle off the roadway. The GMC then continued forward and struck the back of a 2020 Ford, which was being driven by a 53-year-old man, also from Orrick.

Emergency medical teams from Fort Osage EMS responded to the crash. The 94-year-old woman and the 53-year-old man both suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals—Liberty Hospital and North Kansas City Hospital, respectively—for further evaluation. The driver of the 2012 Ford was not listed with injuries at the time of the report.

Damage to the GMC and the 2012 Ford was extensive, and both were towed from the scene. The 2020 Ford sustained moderate damage and was also removed by a tow service. All three drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

We hope all injured individuals in this crash make a full and smooth recovery.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Liberty, MO - Three-Vehicle Crash on MO 210 Injures Two DriversMissouri has seen a steady number of multi-vehicle crashes on highways like MO 210. These types of accidents often occur in high-traffic zones or areas where sudden braking is common. In 2024, there were over 15,000 injury crashes reported statewide, many of which involved rear-end collisions during rush hour or in congested traffic conditions.

It’s important to understand why accidents like this happen and how they can affect those involved:

  • Rear-End Collisions in Traffic: These are among the most common types of accidents. Drivers may follow too closely, or they might be distracted when vehicles ahead slow down. The impact can cause injuries even at lower speeds, particularly for elderly drivers or those with pre-existing conditions.
  • Older Driver Vulnerability: Elderly drivers, like the 94-year-old woman involved in this crash, are more susceptible to injuries in even minor collisions. Reaction time, visibility, and physical strength can affect driving performance, and they often require more medical attention after a crash.
  • Vehicle Chain Reactions: When one vehicle strikes another, it can trigger a chain reaction, especially in multi-lane or congested settings. Each vehicle involved adds to the injury risk and complicates insurance and liability issues.
  • Traffic Flow and Congestion Risks: Highways with frequent merges or stops—like MO 210—see a higher rate of collisions. Slowing traffic, unpredictable driver behavior, and limited reaction time make these roads particularly hazardous.
  • Towing and Vehicle Damage After a Crash: Even with minor injuries, damaged vehicles can be costly. Two of the vehicles in this crash were totaled, which can leave drivers facing insurance claims, rental car fees, and transportation difficulties in the days following the crash.
