Who Pays My Medical Bills After a Pedestrian Accident in Missouri?

Elderly Man Injured After Being Struck by SUV Near Indecott Rd & NE 172nd StAfter a pedestrian crash in Missouri, medical bills can build up fast. Emergency transport, hospital stays, and rehabilitation can be expensive. Because Missouri follows an at-fault insurance system, the driver’s insurer is typically responsible for paying medical expenses if the driver caused the accident.

While liability is being reviewed, your own insurance can help with immediate costs. MedPay or personal injury protection (PIP) benefits can cover medical treatment regardless of fault. Health insurance may also pay for care, though out-of-pocket costs like deductibles and copays still apply.

Keeping detailed records of every expense is essential. Medical bills, receipts, and reports connect your injuries to the crash and make reimbursement easier. Organized documentation also helps when negotiating with insurance companies.

Pedestrian injuries often require ongoing medical care. Physical therapy, follow-up appointments, and assistive devices can create long-term costs. Including these expenses in your claim helps ensure you’re fully covered for the care you need.

Missouri law allows injured pedestrians to pursue compensation for medical bills, missed work, and related losses. These claims depend on strong evidence showing the injuries were caused by the crash. Consistent medical treatment and prompt reporting help support that link.

Insurance companies sometimes disagree over who was at fault. When this happens, victims may rely on their MedPay or health insurance first until the investigation is complete. Having a car accident attorney handle communication with insurers helps avoid delays and keeps the process on track.

A lawyer can review your case and explain how insurance laws apply. They gather evidence, review records, and identify all possible sources of compensation. Legal guidance helps you understand your options and make informed decisions about your next steps.
