Leeton, MO – Mini Motorcycle Rider Badly Hurt at Rte EE & SE 301 Rd Crash

Leeton, MO (May 16, 2025) – A serious crash involving a mini motorcycle and a pickup truck sent one man to the hospital Tuesday evening following a collision at the intersection of Route EE and Southeast 301 Road in Johnson County.

The accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. on May 14. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place when a 37-year-old man on a mini motorcycle was heading north on Lee Street. At the same time, a 49-year-old woman driving a 2015 Ford F-150 was traveling east on Route EE. Both vehicles entered the intersection simultaneously, and the mini motorcycle struck the side of the Ford.

The man riding the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was privately transported to Western Medical Center for treatment. He was not wearing any protective equipment, as he was listed as “exempt.” The pickup truck driver, who had been wearing a seatbelt, was not injured and was able to drive away from the scene.

The mini motorcycle suffered total damage and was removed by a private tow. The truck sustained only minor damage. Both drivers were residents of Leeton, Missouri. Authorities from Troop A, including Trooper N. J. Medrano and Trooper B. S. Lautenschlager, responded to the scene.

We hope the man injured in this crash recovers quickly.

Motorcycle Accidents in Missouri

Leeton, MO - Mini Motorcycle Rider Seriously Hurt at Route EE and SE 301 RdMotorcycle crashes in Missouri often result in severe injuries due to the lack of protection riders have compared to those in enclosed vehicles. According to recent data, hundreds of motorcyclists are seriously hurt or killed on Missouri roads each year. In many cases, visibility and right-of-way misunderstandings at intersections are a major contributing factor.

When these accidents happen, several risk factors can make injuries worse. Below are some of the common dangers motorcyclists face and why safety remains critical:

  • Lack of Protective Barriers: Unlike passenger vehicles, motorcycles offer no surrounding structure to absorb impact. Even low-speed crashes can result in broken bones, internal injuries, or head trauma. Helmets and protective clothing can help, but they don’t eliminate the risk entirely.
  • Visibility Issues at Intersections: Motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see, especially when other drivers are distracted or misjudge their speed. Intersections like the one at Route EE and SE 301 Road are particularly dangerous for riders if other vehicles fail to yield.
  • No-Fault and Insurance Limitations: Missouri’s insurance policies can leave motorcyclists at a disadvantage, especially when the other driver is underinsured or when the rider lacks proper coverage. These limitations can delay treatment or reduce compensation.
  • Severity of Injuries: Motorcyclists involved in crashes are much more likely to experience severe injuries, which often require extended recovery time, multiple surgeries, or even lifelong disability.
  • Uninsured Riders: In some cases, injured riders do not carry sufficient insurance, which can affect their ability to receive compensation. This makes legal support even more important in getting access to the help they need.
