Lawrence, KS (October 26, 2025) – A deadly head-on collision on Friday, October 24, claimed one life and left another person seriously injured along Kansas 10 Highway between West 27th and Iowa streets in Douglas County.
The crash occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. when a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling west crossed the center line and slammed head-on into an eastbound Kia Forte. The violent impact crushed both vehicles and scattered debris across the roadway.
Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office shut down the roadway around 10:40 p.m. as emergency responders rushed to the scene. Paramedics worked quickly to free both drivers trapped in the wreckage and provided life-saving care.
Authorities confirmed that 41-year-old Michael Dieker of Kansas City, Missouri, died at the scene. The other driver, 23-year-old Eliseo Munoz of Lawrence, suffered severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators remained on scene for several hours, collecting evidence and documenting the crash before reopening K-10 just before 4 a.m. Saturday, October 25. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances of this tragic accident.
