Car Accidents in Missouri

Lafayette Co., MO – Two Women Injured in Crash on I-70Missouri consistently reports high numbers of traffic collisions every year. According to state data, there are more than 150,000 crashes annually, with tens of thousands resulting in injury. While many happen in urban centers, a significant portion also occur on rural roads and highways like I-70, where higher speeds can increase the risk of serious outcomes.

Knowing how accidents happen can help prevent future incidents. Below are some common causes of motor vehicle crashes:

  • Improper Lane Usage: When drivers cross into opposing lanes, the result is often a head-on or side-impact crash. These types of collisions are particularly dangerous at high speeds and often lead to serious injuries.
  • Driver Fatigue: Drowsy driving is a major problem, especially in the afternoon hours. Fatigue slows reaction times and can lead to drivers drifting into other lanes or missing traffic signs.
  • Distracted Driving: Cell phones, GPS systems, and even eating behind the wheel can pull attention away from the road. It only takes a few seconds of distraction to cause a life-altering crash.
  • Failure to Yield: Not respecting the right-of-way can be a critical mistake. This includes misjudging traffic at intersections or merging lanes, which often leads to side-impact collisions.
  • Vehicle Condition: Older vehicles may have outdated safety features or be more prone to mechanical failures. Regular maintenance can help reduce the risk of brake or tire issues on the road.
