Truck Accident on I-635 Near Shawnee Dr in Kansas City, KS

Kansas City, KS (October 3, 2026) – Four people were taken to the hospital after a Kia Soul and Kenworth T680 collided on Interstate 635 Thursday evening. The Kansas City truck accident occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. on October 1 in the southbound lanes of I-635, about two-tenths of a mile north of Shawnee Dr.

According to the crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling southbound in the number one lane when traffic slowed. A 2015 Kia Soul driven by Denise Renee Lewis, 52, of La Cygne, struck the rear of a 2016 Kenworth T680 driven by Jerry Lindsey Porchia, 62, of Endor, Missouri.

Lewis was injured and transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Her passenger, Alexis Renee Wall, 28, of Kansas City, was also injured and taken to the same hospital. A 14-year-old passenger in the Kia suffered injuries and was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center as well.

Porchia sustained injuries and was also taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center. The report indicates that everyone involved was using a safety restraint at the time of the collision.

Sunflower Tow removed the Kia from the scene, while All City Tow removed the Kenworth. The accident was investigated under case K344. The report indicates that neither a hit-and-run nor a police pursuit was involved.

We hope Denise Renee Lewis, Alexis Renee Wall, Jerry Lindsey Porchia, and the injured teenager make full recoveries.

Does a Commercial Truck Accident Involve Different Insurance Issues?

A Kansas City truck accident may involve commercial insurance coverage that differs from a standard personal auto policy. Can an Injured Passenger Make a Claim After a Truck Crash?

A passenger injured in a Kansas City truck accident may be able to pursue qualifying losses without having been responsible for operating either vehicle. Medical expenses, missed income, and other documented damages may become relevant depending on the circumstances.
