Kansas City, MO – Two Teens Seriously Hurt in Crash on I-35 Split

Kansas City, MO (February 8, 2026) – Emergency crews responded on Sunday, February 8, after a crash left three people, including two juveniles, injured near downtown Kansas City.

The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 35 near the split for eastbound I-70, westbound I-670, and southbound 71 Highway.

Investigators said a Nissan Altima was traveling south on I-35 when it veered off the roadway and struck a concrete support for an overhead sign. The impact left the vehicle heavily damaged.

Crews arrived within minutes to assist the victims. Paramedics treated the occupants at the scene before transporting them to nearby hospitals.

Officials confirmed the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. One young occupant suffered life-threatening injuries, and another sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover. Their names and ages have not yet been released.

Authorities said suspected impairment is being reviewed as a possible factor in the crash. Investigators examined the wrecked vehicle and spoke with witnesses to determine how the collision occurred.

The Kansas City Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We hope the two children and the driver make a full and speedy recovery.

How Can I Prove the At-Fault Driver Was Drunk After a Missouri Crash?

Two Juveniles Seriously Hurt in Suspected Impairment Crash on I-35 Split

After a crash, calling law enforcement is the first step to prove impairment. Officers document observations, perform sobriety tests, and record initial findings in their reports. This early documentation becomes key evidence later.

At the scene, note how the other driver behaves. Slurred speech, confusion, or an unsteady walk can indicate intoxication. Writing these details down right away helps preserve them for your claim.

If it’s safe, take photos or videos of the scene before it changes. Images of open containers, tire marks, or a vehicle’s position can strengthen your account without repeating what’s in the police report.

Independent witnesses add credibility. Ask for names and contact details of bystanders who saw the crash or the driver’s behavior. Their statements can confirm what you observed.

Request the official crash and DUI investigation reports. These include police notes, test results, and any citations issued. Having copies allows your DUI accident attorney to connect verified information to your case.

A lawyer can gather and organize evidence for you. An attorney understands Missouri’s DUI and civil liability laws and how to apply them effectively. Legal guidance helps protect your rights and avoid mistakes.
