Workplace Accidents in Missouri

Workplace accidents involving electrical contact are among the most dangerous incidents that can occur on a job site. Tree trimmers, electricians, and construction workers face significant risks when working near power lines, especially if equipment or tools come too close to live electrical sources.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), electrocutions rank among the top causes of workplace fatalities in the United States each year. In Missouri and Kansas, tree-trimming and utility maintenance workers are particularly vulnerable due to frequent exposure to overhead power lines and elevated work environments.

Victims of electrical and workplace injuries often suffer severe or life-threatening harm, including traumatic burns, cardiac arrest from electric shock, brain injury due to oxygen loss, spine or neck injuries from falls, and permanent nerve damage that can cause lasting pain and disability.

Common causes of workplace accidents involving electrocution include:

  • Failing to maintain safe clearance from power lines.
  • Inadequate training or supervision.
  • Use of metal ladders, tools, or equipment that conduct electricity.
  • Defective safety gear or malfunctioning harnesses.
  • Lack of coordination between utility companies and contracted workers.

These types of injuries can lead to extensive hospital stays, rehabilitation, and long-term disability. Victims and their families may face overwhelming medical bills and emotional distress while adjusting to life after a serious accident.
