Can I File a Claim in Missouri if the Driver Fled the Scene?Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on US-69 at I-635

Yes, it may still be possible to file a claim in Missouri even if the driver who caused the crash left the scene. Victims or their families may have options through certain types of insurance coverage or legal claims related to the accident.

Hit-and-run accidents create complex situations because investigators must first identify the driver involved. In many cases, police review witness statements, roadway evidence, and nearby cameras to locate the vehicle.

These investigations may take time, especially when the driver leaves the area immediately after the collision.

Injuries from hit-and-run crashes can be severe, particularly when pedestrians are involved. Victims may suffer head injuries, broken bones, or internal trauma due to the force of the impact.

Medical providers document these injuries and create records that show how the crash affected the victim’s health and treatment needs.

Families face additional financial concerns after a fatal accident. Funeral expenses, medical bills, and the loss of financial support can affect a household. Insurance policies sometimes include uninsured motorist coverage, which may apply in situations where the responsible driver cannot be located.

Documentation plays an important role in any claim connected to a hit-and-run collision. Police reports, medical records, witness statements, and photographs of the scene may help explain what occurred. These materials often assist insurance companies and legal professionals when they review the case.

A wrongful death attorney can help examine these records and explain what options may be available under Missouri law. Legal guidance may also help families understand how insurance communication works and what steps may follow during the claims process.
