Kansas City, MO – Fatal Hit-and-Run on Independence Ave near Monroe Ave

Kansas City, MO (August 18, 2025) – Kansas City Police are searching for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in a hit-and-run late Saturday night, August 16. 

The crash happened just after 10 p.m. on Independence Avenue near Monroe Avenue. Investigators said the victim was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when a speeding silver Toyota Camry reportedly ran a stoplight.

The vehicle struck the pedestrian with significant force and then fled the scene without stopping. First responders arrived quickly and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital. Sadly, the pedestrian later died from their injuries.

Police confirmed that they are working to locate the Camry and identify the driver involved. Investigators believe speed played a major role in the crash.
