Kansas City, MO – Fatal Crash at Lexington Ave & Wabash Ave

Kansas City, MO (August 14, 2025) – A tragic crash early Thursday morning, August 14, left one person dead and several others injured in a collision at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Wabash Avenue. 

The incident occurred shortly after midnight when a Kansas City police sergeant attempted to stop a stolen Hyundai Tucson near Independence and Brooklyn avenues. According to the Kansas City Police Department, the driver of the Hyundai refused to pull over, leading to a brief police chase. The officer eventually stopped pursuing the vehicle near Independence and Wabash avenues.

The Hyundai, now traveling northbound on Wabash Avenue, ran a stop sign at the intersection of Lexington Avenue. It collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was heading west on Lexington. One passenger in the Jeep was ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the crash. Tragically, the victim later died from their injuries. The identity of the deceased has not been made public at this time.

In addition to the fatality, the driver of the Jeep and three other passengers, including a juvenile, sustained critical injuries. Emergency medical teams responded to the scene, transporting all injured victims to local hospitals for immediate treatment. The driver of the Hyundai and their passenger were also injured and taken to hospitals with serious injuries.

The crash occurred in the early hours of the morning when traffic was likely lighter, but this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement.
