Kansas City, MO (October 17, 2025) – A tragic crash on Tuesday morning,October 14, claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl who was struck by a van while riding her bicycle to school in south Kansas City.
According to Kansas City police, the child, identified as Hazen Duffy, was crossing Longview Road at Food Lane, just one block from Ingels Elementary School, when the collision occurred. Investigators confirmed that Hazen had a green light and was in the crosswalk at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews responded immediately and provided aid, but despite their efforts, Hazen died from her injuries. The van driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The tragedy has renewed calls for improved safety measures in the area, where multiple violent incidents have taken place in recent weeks.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision and are reviewing road safety conditions in the neighborhood.
