Kansas City, MO – Child Critically Hurt in Scooter Crash at Jackson & Windsor Aves

Kansas City, MO (September 22, 2025) – A young boy under 10 years old remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding his scooter in northeast Kansas City on Saturday afternoon, September 20.

The Kansas City Police Department reported the crash occurred around 1:00 p.m. near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Windsor Avenue. Investigators said the child entered the intersection on Windsor Avenue. At the same time, a black SUV traveled north on Jackson Avenue and struck the boy.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and provided immediate care. The child was transported to a local hospital, where doctors listed him in critical but stable condition. Authorities confirmed the driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers.

Police said the investigation is ongoing as they continue to review the circumstances of the collision.

Our thoughts are with the young boy and his family as they face this challenging time.

Scooter Accidents in Kansas City

Collisions involving children are among the most heartbreaking incidents on Missouri roads. In Kansas City, heavy traffic and busy intersections like Jackson and Windsor make safety a constant concern for families.

Children riding scooters, bicycles, or walking near intersections are particularly vulnerable. Without the protection that adults may rely on in vehicles, kids face a much higher risk of serious or even life-threatening injuries.

When a child is involved in a scooter crash, the injuries are often severe. Common outcomes include:

  • Head injuries and concussions – Even with helmets, children may experience brain trauma that affects memory, concentration, and long-term development.
  • Broken bones and fractures – Collisions often throw children to the ground, causing broken arms, legs, or ribs.
  • Internal injuries – Damage to organs or internal bleeding can require immediate surgery and long hospital stays.
  • Spinal cord injuries – Severe crashes may result in partial or full paralysis, altering a child’s quality of life permanently.

Recovering from these types of injuries can take months or even years. Families often face high medical bills, emotional stress, and the challenge of helping their child return to normal activities. In some cases, permanent disabilities mean lifelong care and support are necessary.

Victims of child accidents in Missouri may have the right to pursue compensation through a personal injury claim. These claims can help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, therapy, and the emotional damages that follow traumatic events.
