Kansas City, KS – Woman Injured in Rear-End Crash on I-70 EB

Kansas City, KS (August 23, 2025) – A woman was injured following a two-vehicle crash that took place during the evening rush hour on the Kansas Turnpike.

The crash occurred at around 7:25 p.m. on August 21 along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near mile marker 410.7 in Wyandotte County. According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2021 Ford F150 driven by 41-year-old Steven Case of Otsego, Minnesota, rear-ended a 2025 Nissan Rogue after the Nissan had slowed or stopped due to traffic. The impact pushed the Nissan into the inside barrier wall.

The driver of the Ford was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and did not appear to suffer any injuries. However, the Nissan’s driver, 55-year-old Marty Flowers of Lynchburg, Virginia, sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Providence Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Santa Fe Tow. No citations have been reported at this time. Authorities with the Kansas Turnpike Authority investigated the crash. There were no indications of a police pursuit or hit and run being involved.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Kansas

Kansas City, KS - Woman Injured in Rear-End Crash on I70 EBAccidents on Kansas roadways are a regular occurrence. According to state data, Kansas sees thousands of crashes each year, many resulting in injuries requiring medical attention. These collisions often take place on high-speed routes like interstates and turnpikes, where reaction times are shortened and vehicle speeds amplify crash severity.

Crashes like this one raise serious questions about how and why such accidents occur. Here are a few points that help explain common contributing factors:

  • Tailgating: Following too closely reduces the amount of time a driver has to react to slowing or stopped traffic. Rear-end collisions are often the result of a driver not allowing enough space between vehicles.
  • Distracted Driving: Taking eyes off the road for even a few seconds can lead to crashes, especially in fast-moving traffic. Activities like texting, adjusting controls, or eating can lead to delays in reaction time.
  • Fatigue: Tired drivers may experience slower reflexes and even momentary lapses in attention. Fatigue becomes especially dangerous on long highway stretches, where monotony can contribute to drowsiness.
  • Traffic Congestion: Stop-and-go traffic increases the likelihood of collisions, especially when drivers aren’t paying close attention or misjudge braking distances.
  • Driver Inexperience: Some drivers may lack the experience needed to navigate high-speed roads or respond to sudden changes in traffic flow safely.
