Kansas City, KS – Woman Hurt in Rear-End Crash on U73 at Parallel Pkwy

Kansas City, KS (July 17, 2025) – A two-vehicle accident on northbound U73 sent one woman to the hospital after a high-speed rear-end crash on July 15.

The crash occurred around 2:52 p.m., just south of Parallel Parkway at milepost 16.5 in Wyandotte County. According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2017 Buick Enclave driven by 49-year-old Amy Sue Quinlan of Shawnee, Kansas, was heading north in both lanes one and two. As the Buick approached the traffic signal, it failed to stop and slammed into a 2024 GMC Terrain that was stationary at a red light in lane two.

Behind the wheel of the GMC Terrain was 35-year-old Tanner Cord Fuson of Braymer, Missouri. He had a passenger, 54-year-old Denise Kathryn Nance of Gladstone, Missouri, who was taken to Providence Hospital for treatment following the crash. Her current condition has not been released. Both vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder after impact. No other injuries were immediately reported.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Kansas

Kansas City, KS – Woman Hurt in Rear-End Crash on U73 at Parallel PkwyEach year in Kansas, thousands of people are injured or worse in vehicle crashes, many of which happen due to distraction, speeding, or careless behavior behind the wheel. In 2023 alone, Kansas reported over 58,000 traffic accidents, according to state data. These collisions often lead to injuries that disrupt everyday life and sometimes even have long-term consequences for victims and their families.

Understanding what can contribute to these collisions can help reduce risks on the road:

  • Rear-End Collisions: Rear-end accidents are among the most common types of crashes. They often occur at stoplights or during sudden traffic slowdowns. These collisions can result in whiplash, head injuries, or worse, especially when the impact happens at high speeds.
  • Impact on Older Passengers: People over 50 are often more vulnerable to injuries in car accidents. Even moderate crashes can lead to serious complications, such as fractured bones or head trauma. Quick medical attention is important in preventing long-term damage.
  • Stopped or Slowed Traffic Risks: Accidents at red lights or stop signs frequently happen when drivers are distracted or following too closely. Maintaining proper distance and focusing on the road can significantly reduce the chance of a collision.
  • Shoulder Positioning After a Crash: When vehicles come to rest on the shoulder after a crash, it can be a temporary safety measure, but it also increases risks for secondary collisions. Drivers involved in an accident should remain in their vehicles if safe, turn on hazard lights, and wait for help.
  • Delayed Symptoms: Sometimes, symptoms of injury—like pain or stiffness—do not show up immediately. It’s important for victims to get checked out after any crash, even if they feel fine initially. Delayed injuries can worsen without treatment.
