Kansas City, KS – Apartment Fire at Corbin Greens Leaves Woman Hospitalized

Kansas City, KS (September 16, 2025) – Firefighters rescued a woman early Tuesday morning, September 16, after a blaze broke out in a kitchen at an Overland Park apartment building.

According to the Overland Park Fire Department, the fire was reported just after 1 a.m. at the Corbin Greens Apartments on Russell Street near Lamar Avenue. When fire crews from Overland Park and Leawood arrived, they saw flames in a second-floor kitchen. Alarms were sounding, and residents were evacuating.

Firefighters rushed inside and carried a woman from the second floor. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital with smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control. The flames were contained to one unit and fully extinguished in about 10 minutes. Officials said the building’s sprinkler system helped keep the blaze from spreading, allowing other residents to safely return to their apartments.

Investigators believe the fire started as a cooking accident, though the official cause remains under review.

We hope the injured woman has a swift and full recovery.

Fire-Related Injuries in Kansas City

Apartment fires, even when contained, can leave victims with serious injuries and emotional trauma. In this case, firefighters rescued a woman who suffered smoke inhalation, a condition that can cause lasting respiratory issues. Residents of multi-story apartment buildings face particular dangers, as heavy smoke and flames can trap people before they escape.

Victims of fires often deal with challenges such as:

  • Severe medical costs – Treatment for burns, smoke inhalation, and related injuries can quickly become overwhelming. Long-term care may include hospital stays, oxygen therapy, or surgeries.
  • Loss of personal property – Fires can destroy belongings, furniture, and important documents, leaving residents without basic necessities
  • Displacement and housing struggles – Even when a fire is contained, smoke or water damage may make an apartment unlivable, forcing victims to find temporary housing.
  • Emotional trauma – Experiencing a fire can cause lasting fear, anxiety, and sleep difficulties for victims and their families.

For victims in Kansas and also in Missouri, legal options may be available to recover damages. Working with a skilled personal injury lawyer can help victims pursue compensation for medical expenses, property damage, and emotional suffering.

Landlords, management companies, or negligent parties may be held accountable when inadequate safety measures or negligence contribute to the extent of harm.

When accidents like apartment fires happen, victims often feel overwhelmed. Insurance companies may attempt to minimize payouts, leaving individuals without the resources they need to recover. This is why it’s always better to resort to a qualified attorney who can investigate the circumstances, identify responsible parties, and fight for fair compensation.
