Kansas City, KS (April 14, 2026) – The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle Kansas City car accident on the evening of April 13 that resulted in multiple people being transported to area hospitals. At approximately 6:21 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the westbound lanes of I-70 at mile marker 413.3 in Wyandotte County.
According to preliminary reports, a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado driven by 27-year-old Viviana Patino-Corona of Edwardsville was stopped in the right lane due to traffic congestion. A 2004 Lexus SC, operated by 43-year-old Eric Erb of Shawnee, was traveling in the same lane and struck the rear of the Chevrolet. The force of the impact caused the Lexus to veer off the right side of the road, where it eventually struck a tree. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were rendered non-functional.
Medical personnel treated the occupants at the scene before transferring them for further care. Eric Erb was taken to KU Med with reported injuries. Viviana Patino-Corona was transported to Overland Park Regional after reporting a complaint of pain. Law enforcement officials closed the right lane for a period of time to clear the wreckage and conduct an initial investigation into the cause of the crash.
