Kansas City, KS (May 6, 2026) – A Kansas City car accident caused injuries Tuesday morning along Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County. The crash happened at approximately 10:40 a.m. on May 5 near mile marker 418.7 eastbound on I-70 within the Kansas Turnpike Authority jurisdiction.
According to reports, a 2019 Chevrolet passenger car and a 2019 International box truck were both traveling eastbound when the collision occurred. Investigators stated that the Chevrolet was moving in the number three lane while the box truck traveled in the number one lane. Both vehicles reportedly attempted to merge into the center lane at the same time, leading to the sideswipe-style impact.
Authorities investigating the crash identified the driver of the Chevrolet as 24-year-old Shamara Lauren Allston of Kansas City, Kansas. Allston complained of pain following the collision and was transported to KU Med for medical treatment. The Chevrolet sustained damage and was removed from the scene by Pro-Tow.
The second vehicle involved was a 2019 International box truck driven by 75-year-old William Chesley Diggs of Wichita, Kansas. Officials noted that Diggs reported no apparent injuries following the crash. The truck also sustained damage in the accident.
Traffic delays were reported in the area while emergency crews worked to clear the roadway and assist those involved. The incident remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
