Wyandotte County, KS (July 19, 2026) – A serious Kansas City car accident involving a fleeing suspect left an older driver hospitalized. The collision occurred at approximately 11:39 a.m. on July 16 near I-35 and Lamar Ave, involving a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Mercury Grand Marquis.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash involved Jason W. Sisney, 27, of Edgerton, Kansas, who was driving northbound on I-35 after a police pursuit had been discontinued. Authorities reported that Sisney exited onto Lamar Ave and ran a red light, striking the Mercury driven by a 66-year-old man from Shawnee, Kansas.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and provided medical care before transporting the Shawnee man to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Sisney sustained minor injuries in the crash. Officials confirmed that the pursuit had been called off prior to the collision, though the suspect continued driving before entering the intersection.
The impact caused significant disruption in the area as authorities worked to assist those involved and clear the roadway. Investigators are continuing to review the sequence of events leading up to the crash, including traffic signal timing and vehicle movement.
Sisney now faces a felony charge for possession as well as a misdemeanor charge for fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement in Johnson County.
